Frans Hals is Holland's most celebrated painters. His brother Dirck also was known, but not on the scale of Frans Hals. The Frans Hals Museum is located in Haarlem just a short distance away from Amsterdam. The town is a must see side-trip, and you can begin at the Frans Hals Museum before seeing the Tylers Museum and the rest of the town.
If you just can't travel to Haarlem, then Hals is featured in the Rijksmuseum as well.
