Death Valley National Park Will Surprise You with Dramatic Topography! |
For those who like real isolation, Death Valley is often overlooked as a destination. Many people visit Scotty's Castle each year without driving 10 more miles to see Ubehebe Crater, an immense real live crater! If you drive 20ish miles of very bumpy road beyond the crater, you can see the Racetrack with the mysterious sliding rocks.
People think of Death Valley as a dry desert network of sand dunes. Actually, while the dunes are nice, the main dunes at Stovepipe Wells are usually inundated with tourists. Almost unknown is Eureka Dunes, a series of dunes over 600 FEET tall, in what may be the most remote and isolated spot in California. This area was only recently annexed into Death Valley National Park, and there are no facilities to speak of.
