The Graffiti Directory

While in Europe traveling heavily by train, I noticed a huge amount of talented graffiti art. While some people may consider graffiti to be a form a vandalism, I think it is prettier than concrete. Here are some pictures I took, with descriptions.

heyyou.jpg

HEYYOU, my favorite picture. It was taken at a train station in Zug, Switzerland, and shows a devilish creature urging us to continue our wars and bombing, because he likes it. VERY POWERFUL.

cops.jpg

COPS, a sanctioned graffiti work, is found off Lake Lucerne, Switzerland in an access tunnel to the Mt. Pilatus rack railway station. While most graffiti is done under cover of the night, this tunnel was obviously painted with the local cops permission.

spine.jpg

SPINE, another sanctioned picture from the tunnel to the rack railroad. Please note the tourist sign above the picture showing how to get to the boats and trains.

einstein.jpg

EINSTEIN, another favorite of mine: I consider this graffiti-work-in-progress to be the best example of a great young artist choosing a non-standard outlet for his/her creative talents.

wizard.jpg

WIZARD, another picture taken at the Zug train station in Switzerland.

einstein1.jpg

einstein2.jpg

EINSTEIN1 and EINSTEIN2, two more views of the EINSTEIN picture.

blue.jpg

BLUE, a cute beatnik-like picture, again from Switzerland.

imfreec.jpg

IMFREEC, a billboard ad behind the train station in Salzburg, Austria. I took this picture to show how the pervasiveness of graffiti lettering has made its way into commercial advertising.

whatuwi.jpg

WHATUWI, another example of commercial use of graffiti style art.
