The Kuekenhof is a premier garden in Holland, and it's not far from Amsterdam. If I understand correctly, they are only open during April and May for public tours. They have many acres planted with all kinds of plants which are synonymous with Holland: tulips, crocuses, narcissus, and many other plants adorn the outside areas, There is a nice windmill, and many places where you might be able to relax and contemplate life in a beautiful setting.
Indoors, they have an incredible selection of hothouse plants. I remember the orchids, mostly. Also there is a restaurant and snack bar.
When I went, I purchased a ticket from Lover's Rail, which has an office in Amsterdam Central Station. They run private trains to a station which is a 1/2 mile walk from the Keukenhof. At the station there are usually bike rentals. I rented a bike and rode the 1/2 mile to the entrance. I locked my bike, took the tour, and after leaving I rode around the town for an hour before returning the bike and catching the train back to Amsterdam.
