Here are some pictures of the French Thalys TGV train. It goes between Amsterdam and Paris reaching speeds of 300 kph (180 mph). It only goes this fast in France where they have special high-speed tracks installed. In Holland and Belgium the Thalys goes more slowly because it uses the same track as all other trains, and in places the track is not capable of carrying a train going so fast. Also I think the Dutch are safety conscious and would rather put safety in front of getting there a few minutes faster.
